We have tested various A/T tires on our Moab adventures tour where we had to rent specific Jeep Wranglers at $290 a day with some of the best reputable A/T tires marketed to Jeepers in order to test their off-road capabilities on Moab and Utah Jeep trails Since A/T tires should also perform well on paved roads.

We also rented several Jeep Wranglers fitted with A/T tires from Enterprise Rent-A-Car to compare the tires in terms of their handling and stability on highway speeds, and how smooth they were on the road considering most Jeepers struggle to get a smooth ride on paved roads because of the Jeep Wrangler structure – and off we went to Route 128 “Wine to Waves” highway.

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tires.

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tire provided the best traction off-road, we are experienced Jeep off-roaders, and this is our favorite set of A/T tires that you will spot on our Custom Jeep Wrangler, on our Moab adventures, the tires Deep tread depth provided the best traction on rocks, dirt and gravel due to their tread patterns.

On top of that BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tire on-road performance is outstanding, especially when it comes to high-speed stability, if the tires you are looking forward to upgrading experienced Jeep vibration at highway speeds or loud humming noises, BFGoodrich All-Terrain are the right tires for you.

Based on our experience, we wouldn’t recommend the tires to anyone who drives through mud or deep snow terrains, instead, we would recommend you buy snow tires or mud tires. on our custom Jeep, the Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tire is now past 70k miles with little nubbies on the sidewall having been driven through various off-road terrains and paved roads across the United States in our Jeep Overlanding and Camping trips.

Pros

  • Outstanding Off-road terrain performance.
  • Tough and durable split and bruise-resistant sidewall rubber (CoreGard Technology)
  • Provide a rugged look for your custom Jeep Wrangler.
  • 50,000 miles warranty

Cons

  • Not ideal for Jeep mudding or Jeeping in snow terrains.
  • Because of the block treads and symmetrical grooves, air passes through them reducing the fuel economy of your Jeep.

Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires

The Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires are a cheaper option compared with the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tires, but also offer respectable performance both on-road and off-road terrains.

We had the opportunity to off-road with a Jeep Wrangler in Moab installed with Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires, just after driving with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Car Tires, the Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires have better dynamic hybrid tread patterns and sidewall construction that provided a much quite and comfortable off-road performance in off-road Jeep trails.

On-road performance on paved roads was a little disappointing, the tall tread blocks on the tires look similar to those found on mud terrain tires, and this meant we would experience fuel efficiency problems or loud noise problems.

We compared our notes with Brett Berk who contributes to major automobile news outlets including the New York Times (did we mention this first-hand research was a group activity, well that’s a story of another, day – let’s get back to tires), we compared our notes and concluded that the tires were noisier on high speeds and are not fuel efficient compared with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tires.

Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires offers a limited manufacturer warranty that lasts anything from 4-6 years after the purchase of the tires.

Pros

  • Fair Price compared with KO2s.
  • High load capacity, great for Jeep Overlanding, Jeep Towing, and Jeep Camping.
  • Great performance in Mud Terrains.

Cons

  • A bit loud compared with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tires.

Goodyear Adventurer with Kevlar.

The Goodyear Adventurer with Kevlar A/T tires is one of the best A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler that offers the best combination of Jeep off-road and on-road capabilities, thanks to its tread patterns that are optimized for dry tread zones and wet tread zones.

The wet tread zones also offer good performance for wet surfaces such as wet surfaces and snow (despite not having Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake signs that we could spot on them), by reducing hydroplaning while offering good traction and braking performances compared to BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tires and Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires.

We contacted Goodyear customer care through their phone number (800) 667 – 8138 and inquired what technology is used on their good year A/T tires, and they were quick to point to Fuel Max technology.

Fuel Max technology is a unique technology that will cool your tires when off-roading and highway driving in the summer, the technology also utilizes fuel-efficient rubber compounds that will save you gas compared to Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires, the technology also lowers rolling resistance when cornering, a feature that is more likely to occur after lifting your Jeep Wrangler.

The warranty on Goodyear tires includes total replacements and prorated features.

Pros

  • Fuel-saving technology is used on tire compounds.
  • Hydroplaning resistance offers more stable handling on wet surfaces.
  • We recommend them on light snow

Cons

  • It’s not the most comfortable tire in our list of A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires

The Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires were also on our list for our first-hand tests on the best A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler, and we had the opportunity to test them off-road, rock crawling, and on the highway.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires offer the best sidewall traction and protection compared with Goodyear Adventurer with Kevlar. And their sidewall grips resemble those of Nitto RIDGE GRAPPLER All-Terrain Radial Tires which are larger tread spacing that will help improve stability when off-roading.

The tread patterns on the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires promote all-weather traction including wet surfaces, and snow driving, the treads are asymmetric tread patterns that are smaller and well-spaced and will reduce the noise that is familiar with A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler.

When off-roading, we tried them aired down, and the grip was surprisingly good, especially when rock crawling, we aired down to see how the beefed-up cord on the bias angled third ply sidewall construction will behave when aired down, and sidewall armor called PowerPly XD which makes the tires 150 thicker than most A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler that we tested.

Depending on your Jeep Wrangler’s load capacity, the tires can grip the road surfaces well when aired down, and when driving on the highway the thicker walls improved the Jeep’s response to steering inputs, increasing the stability and overall handling of your Jeep Wrangler.

Pros

  • Responsive handling compared with other A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler that we tested.
  • Great for lifted Jeeps due to its thicker sidewalls that improved high ride stability.
  • Sidewall protection is good for Jeep off-roading and rock crawling traction and towing/ pulling power.
  • Great for heavy customized Jeeps used for Overlanding and Camping.

Cons

  • The tires didn’t perform well on wet surfaces compared with other A/T tires for the Jeep wrangler that we tested.

Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All- Terrain Radial Tire.

The Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All-Terrain Radial Tire joined our list of the best A/T tires for the Jeep Wrangler because they look aggressive and complement the rugged look of the Jeep Wrangler, they handle well and bite the snow and off-road obstacles improving the traction and overall handling of the Jeep Wrangler.

The Amazing fact about Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All-Terrain Radial Tire is that they are quieter and offer a smooth ride on the highway compared to the Top best A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler on our list such as BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 Radial Tires.

If you are looking for a budget-friendly A/T tire for Jeep Wrangler that will not fail you when it comes to wet surfaces, and dry surfaces handling, we would recommend the Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All-Terrain Radial Tire.

The management at Moab adventures told us that compared with other tires on their Jeep Wranglers, they rarely replace the Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All-Terrain Radial Tire, they are less prone to tire chunking as a result of being frequently used off-road. Other A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler tend to break down the tread blocks and large pieces get ripped off the tire over time.

We also added the Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All-Terrain Radial Tire to our list of the best A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler due to their Falken Tire 65,000 miles limited tread life warranty, and this means Falken tire is confident in their tires confirming Moab management statements.

Pros

  • Excellent handing in off-road Jeep trails, especially dry surfaces.
  • Very good performance on wet surfaces including light snow.
  • Budget-friendly.
  • Fasters Growing tire brand amongst Jeepers.

Cons

  • Some competitors offer better treadwear for A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler.

Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires.

We tested the Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires on several Jeep Trails, to test the performance of the tires on both wet and dry surfaces, Overall compared to other A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler, the Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires performed better in terms of dry and wet grips, and handling.

The Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires isn’t designed to work on snow and ice, and to our surprise, they were able to handle light snow, however, we would recommend them for Jeeping in snow, and we would recommend getting yourself all-season tires or Winter tires for Jeep Wrangler.

Off-roading tests were fair, the Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires performed well in terms of traction, and excelled in handling and braking tests, we never felt the tires lacking in terms of traction on Jeep trails, however, we would recommend them for occasional off-roaders, and more to daily drivers.

On the highway, the Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires provided a comfortable driving experience, but we felt the tires were a bit taut compared to other A/T tires for Jeep Wranglers on top of the list.

In terms of noise when driving the Wrangler, the tires were noisy at high speeds, but less on city roads, giving us a mixed signal. If you are a Jeepers who wants to avoid noises in your Jeep and you occasionally ride your Jeep on the highway, the Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires is not the right fit for you.

The warranty on the Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires is 60,000 miles, which is less than Falken WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL All-Terrain Radial Tire, the tires fitted on the test Jeep Wrangler had only 10,000 miles on them and they looked still new.

Pros

  • Comfortable and Improved handling on the highway.
  • Slightly better on wet surfaces compared to the top A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler that we tested.
  • Smooth on light Jeep Trails, you will need to air down on difficult terrains to add traction for off-roading.

Cons

  • A bit noisy compared to other A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler that we tested.

ProComp AMP Terrain Attack A/T Tires.

It doesn’t mean that the ProComp AMP Terrain Attack A/T Tires that’s why we placed at the bottom, NO! This is one of the best A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler that you should consider, it offers both off-road and on-road performance with smooth characteristics.

The ProComp AMP Terrain Attack A/T Tires proved its capabilities for offroading, while we tried our test Jeep in one of the most difficult terrains that involve steep rock crawling, yes, we had to air down our test Jeep Wrangler since that’s what most Jeep offroaders would do and the tires had better grip compared to Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires, thanks to its better sidewall treads compared with Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires.

The treads on the tires were able to channel dirt, mud, and water from the tires when offroading, and we were able to feel the improved traction in loose sand, rocks, and dirt after changing the tires from Yokohama Geolandar AT Tires.

On the highway, the tires provided much-needed traction improving the stability and handling of the Jeep, on high speed the traction was great for cornering, and the Jeep had no problem, however, we could hear humming sounds emanating from the tires.

Pros

  • Tough Tread construction.
  • Performs best for off-roading activities meaning it’s ideal for Overlanders, Campers, and Off-roaders.

Cons

  • Noisy on the highway

Conclusion and Overall Recommendations.

Those are our top A/T tires for the Jeep Wrangler, we based our research on the road and off-road terrains, including dry and wet surfaces, and our tests were based on the handling, traction, sidewall strengths for off-roading, pricing, and brand reputation among Jeepers.

To summarize here are our top three best A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler.

Keep in mind that A/T tires are not recommended for Jeeping in snow, you will need dedicated Winter tires for these purposes, to offer you the best handling capabilities. Also, make sure to check the tire is the correct size, and also the rim size, this is crucial before buying A/T tires for Jeep Wrangler to make sure they fit in your Jeep.
