The level 1 charger that came with the Jeep 4xe Charger is a slow charging charger with 120 volts output; we needed to upgrade to a Jeep 4xe fast charger with 240 volts to juice up our brand-new Jeep 4xe 400-volt, 17 kWh battery at home.
One of the considerations for the new Jeep aftermarket Level 2 charger was a long power cord that would be long enough to use in our two-door garage so that we don’t have to move the Jeep every time we need to charge it; this is some of the many premium options we were going for in our hunt for a brand-new Jeep 4xe level 2 charger.
This was when the idea of this blog post came in; we decided to try out different level 2 chargers available in the market today compatible with the Jeep 4xe and review them for our readers who own a Jeep 4xe.
We have bought a total of 10 Jeep Chargers available in the market today, tested and experimented on various Jeep 4xe level 2 chargers available in the market for purchase today, and also compared them with results we got after using Jeep chargers installed in various Off-Road Trailheads Jeep Charging Stations.
During our tests, our main test focus was on Jeep 4xe charger hardware tests and Jeep 4xe charger software tests, it’s well known that hardware and software should work together toward improving functionality and reliability of the charging experience, so we focused on the Jeep 4xe charger design and components quality, and also did some tests on software issues that causes bugs and glitches. Hardware and software tests and understanding are crucial when it comes to purchasing a Jeep 4xe charger since they are commonly reported to be the leading causes of Jeep 4xe charging problems.
We also conducted power quality inspection and specification inspections of the chargers.
In the power quality inspection, we evaluated various parameters like voltage dip, swell, interruption, harmonics, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), power factor, and frequency fluctuation (including voltage sags, voltage swells, under- and overvoltages, transients, and surges) on the charger is crucial and necessitates further investigation. Our top Jeep 4xe chargers had the best measurement results for the charger conducted on-site, which include Input voltage range, THD in all operating points, efficiency, and maximum output power.
To be honest, you need an upgrade whether you are charging your Jeep 4Xe at home or have a Jeep 4xe level 1 charger; you need to try out a Jeep 4xe level 2 charger; however, you will need to be careful when purchasing aftermarket Jeep Chargers since not all chargers deliver what they promise according to our tests. All the Jeep smart chargers below met our estimated specifications: power quality inspection, specifications inspections, and normal things we would test, such as the time it takes to charge Jeep 4xe and the driving range after charging using the below Jeep 4xe level 2 chargers.
To make it easier for you to visualize the advantage of upgrading to this charger, we have recorded our results in the table below for you to visualize the importance of upgrading to Jeep 4xe level 2 charger:
Jeep Wrangler 4xe Charger Specs | Jeep wrangler 4xe Charger Specs | Full battery Charge Hours | Driving range per hour of charge |
Jeep 4xe level 1 charger | 16-amp 3.7 kW | 12 hours | 4 miles/ Hour Charge |
Jeep 4xe level II charger | 32-amp 7.7 kW | 2 hours | 32 miles/ Hour Charge |
Best Jeep 4xe Charger: Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger
To find the best Jeep 4xe charger, we spent close to a week testing different chargers available in the market, each day we had to drive the Jeep 4xe to run down the batteries to less than 60% to test each charger a day, and after testing different chargers based on three key factors (Time elapsed, Battery Capacity & Maximum Current), we settled for the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger as the best Jeep 4xe charger for Jeep 4xe owners to use at home.
Why the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger?

Grizzl-E Connect App
Updated January 2024
When we first bought the Grizzle-E smart charger in 2021, we used third-party OCPP-compliant software, ChargeLab App, to test and charge our Jeep 4xe, way before they released their own Grizzl-E Connect App on October 2, 2023.
ChargeLab App which allows remote Jeep 4xe charging management. All this is possible because the Grizzle-E Smart Connect Level 2 Charger uses OCPP-compliant charging solutions (to be specific, OCPP 1.6j), which is the most competitive and on-demand OCPP protocol in the industry. Third-party software such as ChargeLab App allows EV charging software, smart home software, and much more integration with the charger.
Fast forward to January 2024, Grizzle-E now has its own EV charging software “Grizzl-E Connect App” Unfortunately, our Charger didn’t qualify for the free Grizzl-E Smart upgrade program since it was bought in 2021, this meant we had to purchase a new Grizzle-E charger or pay $100 for the upgrade, we paid $100 and upgraded our EV Charger software from ChargeLab to Grizzl-E Connect App.
We have tested the Grizzl-E Connect App. It’s better than third-party software, and the connectivity is improved. The new app has more features, better reports, and a user interface.
We highly recommend making sure you are eligible for the free upgrade, especially if you purchase the charger from a shop with old stock purchased before 1 August 2023 and after October 1st 2022. This will increase your costs by an additional $100.
Having tested the newly released Grizzl-E Connect App for the past few months, our views and ratings of the Grizzle-E Charger haven’t changed the move to an in-house developed EV Charger software from a third-party EV Charger has improved the connectivity, features and user experience – We can’t recommend the Grizzle-E Charger enough, for the hardware, software and team dedication to improve your Jeep 4xe charging experience.
During the installation of the Grizzl-E Smart Connect Level 2 (EV) Charger, we noticed that there is a high chance you will need a local network administrator to come and reconfigure your network configuration, especially if you are using the latest high-performance routers with 5G band, this is because the Grizzl-E Smart Connect Level 2 (EV) Charger connects to 2.4ghz and works best on network strengths of −67 dBm or greater, your network administrator can create a guest network, modify your router firmware, recommend external access points, or change of a router, bridge your network or use a network extender to create a dedicated 2.4ghz for the Grizzl-E Smart Connect Level 2 (EV) Charger.
Apart from the WIFI connection part, in case you have 5Ghz WIFI frequency, the installation is easy for the Grizzl-E Smart Connect Level 2 (EV) Charger.
The Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger will charge your Jeep 4xe and offer up to 28-30 miles of range per hour on average, with up to 10 kW / 40A output, some factors that might affect your Jeep 4xe charging speeds include the Jeep 4xe charger power output if you choose the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger with different power output (Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger offers 16A, 24A, 32A, or 40A), we do recommend purchasing the 40 A Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger. The age of your battery and energy use are other factors that might affect the charging speeds of your Jeep 4xe.
The cost of installing a Grizzl-E SMART charger to charge your Jeep 4xe at home, according to Qmerit ranges from $800 to $2,000 if a professional, trusted, licensed, and experienced technician installs the Grizzl-E charger for you, however, we found that installing the Grizzl-E charger is easy you have to purchase a 14-50R Power Outlet and install the charger yourself, we bought and used the ENERLITES 50 Amp 125/250V NEMA 14-50R Power Outlet to install the charger in our Garage.
NEMA 14-50R Power Outlet for use with the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger
We do recommend the ENERLITES 50 Amp 125/250V NEMA 14-50R Power Outlet for outdoor installation since it has a waterproof enclosure and is rugged to match your Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger weather resistance capabilities; both Jeep 4xe components make the perfect combo for charging the Jeep 4xe at fast speeds.
Jeep Level 2 Charger Installation.
Indoors Installation: After a few months of using the ENERLITES 50 Amp 125/250V NEMA 14-50R Power Outlet, we decided to try out a much smaller and classic power outlet from Leviton, for our indoor installation, Leviton 279-S00 50 Amp power outlet is a Nema 14-50R, 125/250V industrial grade receptacle outlet with a classier finish for mounting our charger indoors, this meant that we didn’t need to protect the power outlet from weather elements and the Leviton 279-S00 50 Amp power outlet was a good option for us since the Leviton receptacle power outlet didn’t need an enclosure box.
After installation, we gave the Leviton 279-S00 50 Amp power outlet a smooth finish by installing the Leviton flush-mount metal plate made from aluminum. The wall plate gives the Leviton 279-S00 50 Amp power outlet a nice finish and will protect your Level 2 charger receptacle outlet from elements such as water. It’s also easy to clean. The two products fit perfectly together as though they were made for one another.
Overall, the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger is a good Jeep 4xe charger and offers value for the money; it’s also budget-friendly and comes with a 3-year or 5-year equipment warranty, depending on the accessories and type of charger you choose. The fast charging times allow us to reduce our Jeep charging costs, and we also have Jeep solar panels installed on our Overland Jeep, which provides a sustainable power source, lowering our overall carbon footprint.
ChargePoint Home Flex Charger
The ChargePoint Home Flex Charger had some of the best features compared with the other chargers that we tested. Some of the features that we loved include a user-friendly mobile application and power settings from 16 to 50 amps. We recommend using 32 amps to 40 amps on your Jeep 4xe for fast charging with the ChargePoint Home Flex Charger.
ChargePoint Home Flex
The ChargePoint Home Flex Charger offers adjustable amperage, a user-friendly mobile app that allows smart monitoring features, and ENERGY STAR® certification for energy efficiency. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, although the cable length is slightly smaller than the Grizzl-E.
- Adjustable amperage for flexibility.
- User-friendly mobile application.
- Can be used indoors or outdoors.
- ENERGY STAR® certified for energy efficiency.
- Smaller cable length compared to Grizzl-E.
The Chargerpoint Home Flex Charger is rated NEMA 3R, which means it can be useful outdoors, and also ENERGY STAR® certified, which means it uses 40% less energy than standard chargers; it can also be installed indoors using a hardwired installation or a weatherproof NEMA-approved plug-in installation with a NEMA 6-50 or a 14-50 outlet which we have linked below:
NEMA 6-50 Outlet for use with the Chargepoint Home Flex Charger
NEMA 14-50R Power Outlet for use with the Chargepoint Home Flex Charger
The charging cable on the Chargepoint Home Flex Charger is a bit smaller at 23 feet compared with the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger, which has a 24-foot-long cable. The JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger has the longest cable at 25 feet among the three Jeep 4xe chargers we reviewed, and we recommend it to our readers who own a Jeep 4xe or any other Electric Jeep.
We connected the Chargepoint Home Flex Charger to our home Wi-Fi and updated the firmware through the air firmware update. You can remotely access the charger to monitor and control it and track your usage data; for this, you will need to install The ChargePoint Home Flex app.
It took us less than 2.5 hours to fully charge our Jeep 4xe with the Chargepoint Home Flex Charger, and the driving range per hour of charge, as per our calculations, was 12 to 37 miles with the 12kw/40 A output.
The ChargePoint Home Flex Charger comes with a three-year limited parts and equipment warranty, which is standard with the Jeep 4xe aftermarket chargers we tested.
JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger
JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger was the second-best charger that we tested on our Jeep 4xe, It’s much easier to use than the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger because it only comes with 40-amps or 48-amps but can be adjusted down to six; we did charge with the 40 amps settings which is what we do recommend on use on a Jeep 4xe for a fast charge of the Jeep 4xe battery.
The cord of the JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger is a bit longer at 25 feet than the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger which is 24 feet long, however, both fit perfectly on a two-door garage, and the longer cable will allow you to fit the freedom to mount the JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger anywhere you want.
JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger
The JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger is user-friendly with adjustable amperage and a smartphone app for monitoring and control. It offers fast charging times but lacks detailed monitoring of charging costs. The 25-foot cable provides flexibility in placement.
- Adjustable amperage for flexibility.
- Smartphone application for monitoring and control.
- Fast charging time.
- It is difficult to monitor charging costs.
Unlike the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger, which doesn’t have a smartphone app, the JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger has a smartphone application called JuicePass mobile app that we tested and installed on our iPhone and Android devices, we were able to monitor our Jeep 4xe charging, and control when we needed the charger to start working to make sure the charger is in use when electricity rates are down, and it did send us a notification on specific tasks completion or start.
To control and monitor your Jeep 4xe charging remotely, you can download the JuicePass App for your iPhone from the App Store or your Android Device from the Google Play Store.
We were able to use the same NEMA 14-50 outlet that we used on the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger, which is recommended. However, we recommend letting a reputable EV charger installation company install the charger for you and ensure they install a NEMA 14-50 receptacle for your JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger rating.
NEMA 14-50R Power Outlet for use with the JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger
The Jeep 4xe’s charge time was 2.5 hours max, which was very fast compared to the 12 hours it took to charge with the level 1 charger that came with the Jeep 4xe from the factory. One of the most disappointing things about the charger was that it was challenging to monitor charging costs with the JuiceBox 40 Smart Charger.
If you need to monitor the charging costs of your Jeep 4xe, we recommend checking out the Chargepoint Home Flex Charger, which has more detailed and rich data on utility pricing information.
Other Jeep 4xe Level 2 Chargers For Your Considerations
The portable Jeep 4xe level 2 charger can charge your Jeep 4xe in a standard 120-volt AC Power outlet. No extra components are needed, and the chargers perfectly fit the charging port outside the driver’s side of your Jeep 4xe.
Note: When purchasing aftermarket Jeep 4xe chargers, buying only UL-listed/ J1772 standard-compliant chargers; you might get your warranty denied over issues that may occur due to charging issues.
Jeep 4xe level 1 charger Insurance Tip: if you have lost or damaged your Jeep 4Xe charger and you are still under Jeep’s standard warranty, including the extended warranty for Jeep, we can attest that the Jeep 4xe level 1 charger is covered. 05185049AC is the part number for the level 1 charger.
Jeep 4xe charger replacement Tip: You can also replace your Jeep 4xe level 1 charger or add another Jeep 4xe level 1 charger to your stock, or even upgrade to a Jeep 4xe level II charger 240 Volts charger through Mopar.com or visit your local Jeep dealership. The part number for the level 1 charger is 05185049AC.
Jeep 4xe level 3 charger: You should not use a level 3 charger on the Jeep 4xe. This is because Level 3 chargers produce 600v of power, which is not compatible with the small battery of the Jeep 4xe; it’s more suitable for trucks with big batteries.
Conclusions.
Considering its features, flexibility, and ease of use, we recommend the Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger as the top choice for Jeep 4xe owners.

The Grizzl-E Level 2 EV Charger was the best option for Jeep 4xe owners. With adjustable amperage, Wi-Fi connectivity, and easy installation, it offers a seamless charging experience. - Adjustable amperage for flexibility.
- Compatible with Wi-Fi for remote monitoring and control.
- Easy installation.
- 24-foot-long cable for versatile placement.

Key Considerations When Choosing a Level 2 Charger for Jeep 4xe
Several essential factors should guide your decision when selecting the best Level 2 charger for home use with your Jeep 4xe.
Charging Capacity and Compatibility
Ensure the charger has an appropriate charging capacity that aligns with your Jeep 4xe’s requirements for efficient charging by reading the specifications and descriptions of the charger, which will guide you on the output of the household requirements, output of the Jeep 4xe Charger and understand the rate of charging your Jeep 4xe can handle. Compatibility of the charger with the Jeep 4xe is crucial to ensure seamless and optimal charging. We also recommend purchasing UL-listed/J1772 standard-compliant chargers.
Installation Options and Cable Length
Consider your setup and choose a charger that fits your needs, whether it’s a plug-in charger or one that requires hardwiring, depending on your installation expertise or whether you will hire an electrician to install the charger for you. Additionally, ensure the length of the charging cable aligns with your preferences and requirements.
Jeep charger Cable lengths available include 3 meters, 5 meters, and 10 meters. Selecting a length that allows the cable to reach from your Jeep charger to your Jeep, ensuring flexibility for charging whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor location.
When not in use, practical ways to store your Jeep charger include using a 3D Printed Plug Holder, premium EV charger cord retractors, or a ceiling-mounted loadable retracting cord reel. Affixing cords to furniture, creating dedicated spaces for power strips, and utilizing drawers for organized storage also contribute to efficient setups. However, avoiding unattractive arrangements that expose your charger to the elements is crucial, potentially causing corrosion charger malfunction and your Jeep not charging. Improper storage poses a serious risk to the intricate charging elements of the Jeep charger plug, with humidity contributing to rust accumulation.
Invest in a holder/hook combination and a dummy socket for optimal outdoor storage. This ensures a neatly organized electric car charger cable next to your charging station, preventing debris from accumulating on the cable plug connector. These thoughtful storage practices enhance organization and safeguard your Jeep charger from potential damage, providing a reliable and efficient charging experience.
Smart Features
Look for chargers equipped with smart features such as WiFi connectivity; we recommend first familiarizing yourself with the smart charger application, which can be downloaded before purchasing the charger, and checking for features offered and the interface of the monitoring and control application and platforms. The smart feature enables remote monitoring and control of the charging process, adding convenience to your charging routine.
Durability and Safety
Prioritize durability, especially if you plan to charge outdoors, by checking out the materials used to manufacture the charger; you can also look for design features that could impact the durability of the charger. Check for UL certification, which ensures the charger meets safety standards. Durability is essential for long-term use and safe charging experiences.
User Reviews
Consider user reviews and feedback to gain insights into real-world performance and reliability. We highly recommend looking for complaints about power quality and specification in User Reviews. Reports relating to power issues such as voltage dip, swell, charging interruption, and charger’s power consumption should indicate problems with the charger’s power and specifications. This information can provide valuable perspectives on the charger’s functionality and customer satisfaction.
Focusing on these aspects can help you make an informed decision and select the Level 2 charger that best suits your Jeep 4xe and charging requirements.
